You are what your deep, driving desire is.

As your desire is, so is your will.

As your will is, so is your deed.

As your deed is, so is your destiny.

Tip #1
Wow, what a great business card!

One of the least expensive and most impactful ways to market your practice is your business card.  It’s your best impression of who you are.  Your card tells clients all about YOU:  Your professionalism, your style, modalities, uniqueness---what’s wonderful about you and your services!

A business card levels the playing field, from the largest spa or health club, to the individual therapist.  It is your greatest prosperity tool.  What does yours say about you?

At minimum, include your name, and the easiest and best way to contact you (don’t make your clients work to get a hold of you!)  Credentials, certifications and specialties set you apart.  Does your card have a logo or slogan?  Be creative~ Make your card stand out!

Benefits of Massage

A study at the New Jersey Medical School recently demonstrated some great findings about massage.  A group of medical students received a 1-hour massage the day before taking a stressful examination.   The anxiety assessments were conducted by using the S-STAI inventory of perceived stress.  Also physical tests were conducted to assess their immune systems.

The results were not surprising for us therapists, but may be for others:  Significant immune changes occurred included an increase in toxin fighting white blood cells (WBC) and natural killer cells (NK).  It’s an amazing finding—that massage may increase the immune system’s ability to fight dis-ease!  Thanks to Lori Taylor, CMT for a great find to share with our clients!

USA TODAY reports a record number of Americans are seeking relief from the tensions of terrorism in the hands of massage therapists, suggest reports from around the nation.  ''Business is increasing everywhere,'' says Steve Olson, president of the American Massage Therapy Association.

Residents of New York and Washington, D.C., may be most traumatized, but Olson is facing unprecedented demand for massage in his Fargo, N.D., practice. ''I cannot recall ever having to turn down so many people as I have in the last month. I can't get everybody in, even some of my regular clients. ''The terrorism-linked boost in demand for massage follows a period of evidently growing popularity for such bodywork. A poll out today shows 17% of Americans had a massage in the past year, compared with 8% in a 1997 survey.

The American Massage Therapy Association commissioned the survey, conducted by Opinion Research Corp. of Princeton, N.J. It was done in July with a nationally representative sample of 1,000 adults. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.  Thanks to Brad Lindemann, CPT for the submission!

The FELDENKRAIS METHOD   is an educational system that develops a functional awareness of the self in the environment. The Method utilizes the fact that the body is the primary vehicle for learning.  It is an approach to working with people, which expands their repertoire of movements, enhances awareness, improves function and enables people to express themselves more fully.

.This is done by expanding the self-image through movement sequences that bring attention to the parts of the self that are out of awareness and uninvolved in functional actions. Establishing an improved dynamic relationship between the individual, gravity, and society which evokes better function.

                              FELDENKRAIS

The Method enables people to include in their functioning, movements and parts of the body unconsidered, forgotten or excluded from their habitual actions or images of actions. By allowing a person to learn how their whole body cooperates in any movement, the FELDENKRAIS METHOD assists people to live their lives more fully, efficiently and comfortably.

Feldenkrais, himself, defined function as the interaction of the person with the outside world or the self with the environment
